About this experience
A two-hour surf lesson on the beach at Playa Las Américas, in a small group of 2 to 6 people. The board, wetsuit and leash are on us. You turn up in your swimwear and come out of the water knowing how to get to your feet.
How the lesson works
You start on the sand. Wetsuits first, then a short theory session: how to lie on the board, how to paddle, when to push up and how to fall safely. That takes about fifteen minutes, because the rest happens in the water.
You spend around one hour and 45 minutes in the ocean. The instructor places the group where the wave breaks most evenly that day and pushes beginners into one ride after another. With that much time you catch a lot of waves, so the first proper stand-up usually happens within the lesson.
Groups are 2 to 6 people, so the instructor has time to come to each of you individually and fix whatever is not working. That is the real difference from the big beachfront surf schools.
Who this is for (and who it is not)
The lesson is built for beginners. You do not need any board experience or an athlete’s fitness, but you do need to be comfortable in water, because the waves will knock you over. It works well for couples and friends who want to try it together.
If you have surfed for years and want a session on bigger waves, this is not it. This is about first rides and solid basics, not advanced coaching. And bear in mind that after two hours your arms will ache.
Practical information
The meeting point is in Las Américas, right opposite the beach. We send the exact location with your ticket once you have booked. The form offers two start times, 10:00 and 14:00, but we confirm the final time on your ticket, because the team checks wave height and wind direction daily to place the lesson at the best moment of the day.
Your ticket with the details arrives by email within 24 hours of booking. Cancellation is free up to 72 hours before the start with a 100% refund, and under 18s go in the water only with the consent of an adult. The operator may offer photos of the lesson for an extra fee, payable on site.

Meet and suit up

Theory on the beach
The instructor covers your position on the board, paddling, the pop-up and how to fall safely. About fifteen minutes on the sand.
First waves
You go in where the wave breaks most evenly that day. The instructor pushes beginners into their first rides.
Working on technique
Over the following rides the instructor fixes what is not working. The group is small, so everyone gets individual attention.
Out of the water
After around one hour and 45 minutes you wrap up the session and hand back the kit.
