Quad biking up the Teide volcano
About this experience
A three-hour quad bike trip from the south of Tenerife into Teide National Park. You drive yourself, in convoy behind a guide who knows the route and where it is worth stopping. The road climbs to around 2000 m above sea level.
What you do on this tour
It starts at our office in the south of the island with a short briefing: handling the quad, braking on descents, the rules of riding in convoy. You are given a helmet and the equipment needed for a safe ride, then the group sets off.
The climb runs through the island’s changing landscapes, from the dry south up to Canary pine and fields of hardened lava. On a quad it registers differently than from a car, because you have the air, the smell of resin and the full view around you rather than a frame in a window.
The guide leads you to the best viewpoints and stops the convoy where the volcano and the coast line up in the same shot. Those stops are your photo moments, since phones stay away while riding.
Mount Teide is 3718 metres high, the highest mountain in Spain and the third highest volcano in the world. The park around it is the most visited national park in Spain and has been on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 2007.
Who this is for, and who it is not
It suits couples and groups who would rather drive themselves than sit in a coach. The quads seat two, so your passenger can be another adult or a child aged 7 or over. No experience is needed, the briefing covers it.
Two firm conditions. The driver must carry a valid category B driving licence, a scan on your phone will not do. The combined weight of both people on one quad must not exceed 160 kg. If you want calm sightseeing with commentary, this is not the tour.
Practical information
Transport is available from hotels in the south of the island, around Los Cristianos, Las Americas and Costa Adeje. Write your hotel name in the order notes. You can also make your own way to the start point, in which case we send the exact location and meeting time after booking, with your ticket, within 24 hours.
Wear clothes you do not mind getting dusty, because the route is dusty. Temperatures drop quickly after sunset, so bring a jacket or a jumper. The operator may offer photos on site for an extra fee. Under 18s take part with an adult’s consent. Cancellation is free up to 72 hours before the start, with a 100 percent refund.

The route climbs to around 2000 m above sea level, then you ride back down the same way to the start point.
Return to your hotel
From the start point you are driven back to your hotel. The whole tour takes about 3 hours.

Yes. Whoever drives the quad must carry a valid category B driving licence on the day. It has to be the physical document. Passengers do not need one, so in a pair it is enough that one of you holds a licence.
Children from the age of 7 can ride as passengers, always with an adult driving. They do not drive themselves. Keep the weight limit in mind as well: the two people on one quad can weigh no more than 160 kg together.
