About this experience
An hour in the water with a mask and fins, at a spot you can only reach by boat. The trip leaves from the diving centre in Los Cristianos, the kit and the instructor are included, and no previous experience is needed.
What you do on this trip
You head out on a fast RIB along the south coast of Tenerife, to a spot the instructor picks on the day. The team checks conditions each morning, so the route is not fixed. The point is clear water and a calm swell.
On arrival you get a mask, snorkel and fins plus a safety briefing before you go in. Then you have about an hour swimming over the seabed, with the instructor in the water alongside the group, pointing out what to look at.
Below the surface you can expect shoals of small fish, parrotfish and rays, and with a bit of luck a sea turtle. Nobody can promise you specific animals, because this is open ocean rather than an aquarium. The seabed here is rocky and covered in algae, which is exactly what gives the fish shelter.
You come back on the same boat, with time to dry off and photograph the coastline from sea level.
Who this is for (and who it is not)
It is a good first go at snorkelling. You do not need experience or strong swimming skills, as the instructor keeps an eye on the group the whole time. It works well for families and groups of friends, because everyone is in the water together.
The activity is available from the age of 8. If you get queasy on a small boat or feel uneasy in open water, pick something on dry land instead.
Practical information
There are two departure times, 10:00 and 14:00. You can drive to the harbour yourself, there is parking there, or use the transfer from your hotel around Los Cristianos, Playa de las Américas and Costa Adeje. Transport is included in the price.
Your ticket with the exact time and meeting point arrives by email within 24 hours of booking, so keep the electronic version with you. Cancellation is free up to 72 hours before the start with a 100% refund. The team monitors the weather and calls off the departure if the sea does not allow it.

Meet in Los Cristianos
