About this experience
A buggy tour to the Teide volcano for people who want to see the national park from an open vehicle rather than through a coach window. You drive yourself, you stay on roads and you stop where it is worth stopping.
What you do on this tour
It starts with a pick-up from your hotel and a transfer to our base. There you get a short briefing on handling the buggy and on the rules of the road. The controls are simple and no experience is needed.
Then you follow the route through the villages of southern Tenerife and along rural mountain lanes. You pass rustic Canarian villages, and the higher you climb the cooler it gets and the more the open vehicle shows you.
The road leads all the way into Teide National Park. There is time to stop, catch your breath and take panoramic photographs. Teide is the highest peak in Spain, and the hardened lava and ash around it look nothing like the coast you left an hour earlier.
You return to base on surfaced roads, and from there we drive you back to your hotel in the south. Fair warning: dust and laughter are included.
Who it suits
For couples, groups of friends and families who want to combine sightseeing with driving. It is a solid alternative to a classic coach tour if you would rather not spend the day sitting in a bus.
This is not an off-road trip. If you want rough tracks and rocky climbs, choose the off-road buggy tour instead. We would also skip this one if you feel the cold badly, as the national park can be far chillier than the coast.
Practical details
The tour lasts about three hours, including the transfer from the base and the drive back to your hotel. The free transfer covers Los Cristianos, Las Americas and Costa Adeje. Write the name of your hotel in the order notes, the notes field appears once you go through to payment.
Buggies seat two people and the combined weight of driver and passenger must not exceed 160 kg. Four seaters are available too, and you choose the option at booking. The driver needs a valid category B driving licence and has to carry it, while children from the age of 8 and over 135 cm tall can ride as passengers.
